Accommodation Type: Campervanauto-translated: Next to the flat gravel area there is a small building with three clean pit toilets without toilet paper. Motorhomes and tents were also scattered across the wide plain. Water is available from the tap outside on the toilet building of the Tungestølen Touristhytta, just under a 10-minute walk from the motorhome pitch. Curious cattle and sheep roam freely and licked a door handle of our car.
We used the place as an ideal base camp for the hikes to the glacier lake with icebergs at the end of Austerdalen (about 3 hours there and back) and to the Midtnovi viewpoint in Langedalen (7–8 hours there and back, including almost 1000 meters of elevation gain).
Would I come back: Yes

Accommodation Type: Roomauto-translated: We’d spontaneously booked a night in the 21-bed dormitory. It cost 800 NOK including breakfast. We were the only ones in the building, so it was lovely and quiet. Super-friendly staff!! The facilities were top-notch. Everything was clean and well-maintained. You can help yourself to tea, coffee or water at any time. We treated ourselves to dinner as well. The three-course meal was very tasty and cost 400 NOK per person. Hikes to the Austerdal Glacier and the nearby mountain start from there. For motorhomes or campers, there are plenty of options for free camping outside the site. However, you have to pay (all privately run) at the toll booth for the final 6 km of gravel road. 140 NOK for the first night, then 70 NOK for each subsequent night. I don’t know if this is checked. But be warned!! 90 per cent of the 39 km to the hut is single-lane, very narrow, with blind bends and single-lane tunnels. In my opinion, it’s not suitable for large motorhomes or caravans. The passing bays in the unlit tunnels are very short. We visited the glacier and were thrilled. You can get almost right up to it, and it’s not as busy as the others where buses bring crowds of tourists.
