WESERHENNE Camping Sandstedt - Reviews

Accommodation Type: Tentauto-translated: The two of us had booked a stay for two nights at the roof tent village on the Weserhenne campsite in Sandstedt to see if a roof tent might be something for us. The site in Sandstedt (the campsite also operates a second site a little further north) was perfect for our first time at a campsite: the tent meadow is set slightly apart and unspoilt; you hardly realised you were at a campsite. The pitches for caravans and motorhomes are all separated by small hedges or clumps of trees, giving them a very cosy and intimate feel. The atmosphere on the site is relaxed, with a good balance between long-term campers and holidaymakers.
The receptionist is extremely friendly and very helpful; they assisted us on arrival and even replied via WhatsApp well outside opening hours (which we hadn’t expected at all). At reception, there are a few vending machines where you can buy all sorts of things, from cold drinks to insect repellent. There are also chickens roaming around, and their eggs are sold on site. We didn’t try the bread roll service.
The sanitary facilities are a bit dated, but they work well and are clean. A few extra shower and toilet trolleys had also been set up, so we never had to wait. However, there was no hot water in the extra shower trolleys. Use of the sanitary facilities is included in the price.
On the north side of the site, there’s a lovely restaurant with an outdoor terrace and a view of the River Weser, as well as a food van (which we didn’t try, though). The highlight is the wide sandy beach on the Weser, which borders the site on the west side. A great spot for swimming or relaxing, and not overcrowded. You do need to bear in mind the tidal range and the current.
On the opposite bank of the Weser, there’s a port logistics operator which made a lot of noise on our first night, from Friday to Saturday, until three o’clock in the morning. You can hear the clanging of steel and the beeping of forklifts and cranes very clearly across the water. If you’re a light sleeper, you should bring earplugs. On the night from Saturday to Sunday, the industrial estate was completely quiet. However, a group of young people at the campsite tirelessly fought against the night-time silence with loud music.
Despite the somewhat problematic background noise, the “Weserhenne” offers a very good overall experience for us, so we’ll definitely be coming back. Camping here is still just like it used to be: no frills, no fuss, just authentic and friendly.
